FAQ
1. Where is the background sound? (Versions 1.0+)
From your iPhone main screen, find the Settings icon. Scroll all the way down till you see iScanner, pressing the iScanner button will take you to the settings for background volume and control.
2. I seen your video, but my tricorder doesn’t have all the features from the video. Why?
I usually post videos of upcoming releases for iScanner. I always submit the version you have seen of iScanner to iTunes. Apple takes some time to approve the update. So it could be a few days before the update is approved. But, rest assured the version you have seen in the video is coming!
3. How do I access the new screen animations? (Versions 1.2 +)
To access the new screen animations, you MUST have version 1.2! Press the Library AB button once. Then press one of the DEVICE INPUT buttons that is not currently active.library
4. Why doesn’t the GPS, Decibel Meter, or Magnetometer work? (Versions 1.4+)
The GPS will work on iPhone because they have the GPS chip. The Magnetometer will work on iPhone 3GS only. The Decibel Meter will work on iPhones, but not iPod touches, even if an external microphone is attached.

iScanner will check the device you are using and determine which services to activate. If you happen to fall into a category in which you don’t have the necessary hardware, iScanner will default to ‘test’ data. Basically, it will pretend you DO have the hardware so you can at least not completely left out of the new experience.

5.I have an iPhone but my GPS doesn’t work. Or iPhone 3GS but GPS and Manetometer doesn’t work. why? (Versions 1.4+)
Make sure you have Location Services turned on in your Settings App under General. When you activate iScanner, it will check if Location Services is turned on; if it isn’t, it will ask you if you want to turn it on. If you say yes, iScanner will close and take you to the Settings App. If you say no, you will be alerted that you need Location Services turned on. iScanner will then default to the ‘test’ data to give you the experience
6.I have an iPhone, but the Decibel Level isn’t working right. Why? (Versions 1.4+)
There are a few things that can cause this:

1. Some jailbroken/ unlocked devices will cause iScanner to panic and stop listening and display dummy data. I don’t know why it does this on jailbroken devices, it just happens.

2. If the sound level is too loud when you first activate iScanner, iScanner will calm up with fear and stop listening and display dummy data.

3. Something may be wrong with the microphone; this will cause iScanner to freak out and stop listening and display dummy data.

4. Not enough system resources to listen, will cause iScanner to pitch a fit and stop listening and display dummy data.

iScanner isn’t perfect when it comes to the room Decibel level readings. I wanted iScanner to be fast, so I built in a lot of fail safes to prevent it from slowing dramatically down and freezing up. The algorithm I wrote to analyze the incoming sound, do a comparative analysis and calculate the Decibel Level is really complex. Granted someone out there may have been able to do it better without a lot of effort. I just tried to do it to give iScanner “real world” functionality. You could take comfort in knowing that the Decibel Level could have actually ended up as the Weather Temperature In My Area. Hmm who knows, maybe 1.5?

7. Why did you update the iScanner’s interface? (Versions 1.4+)
Why is the sky blue? Why do children laugh? Magic just happens, I guess.
8. How do I go back to the original iScanner interface? (Versions 1.4.1+)
In the Settings App there is an option now for to go back to the Old Interface.
